Topaz is most commonly found in Brazil and Sri Lanka, but Pakistan and Russia are well known for their rare pink Topaz stones, and blue Topaz has been found in Nigeria and China.
Aside from its famous amber gold color, Topaz stones also exist in beautiful shades of light pink and sherry red, warm browns and subtle oranges, and even pale blue.
Topaz is a special type of golden quartz that contains a sun-like iridescence uncommon to all other variations of quartz-family minerals.
One of the most valuable gems in recorded history, the Topaz is associated with the Egyptian mighty sun god Ra and the Roman god Jupiter. Said to posses the golden glow of the sun, legend has it that Topaz dispels enchantment and protects the faithful from being harmed. It is the centerpiece stone of the Portuguese crown, and the most highly regarded stone in the Green Vault precious gem collection in Dresden, one of the most important gem collections in the world.
